Four years ago, God provided me the opportunity to serve Him in Ghana. There I was blessed in experiencing daily Bible study and evangelism training, Christian community with American and Ghanaian believers, and total dependence on the Holy Spirit to accomplish His purposes through me. God used the process of applying, deciding to go and seeing the trip through to completion to form in my heart a desire for mission work. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I want to obey the command all Christians have to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19a, ESV).
This year, God has been teaching me to look for where He is working in order to join Him in His agenda. God is working in the Royal School and Orphanage in Mityana, Uganda through the organization Love Grows. Love Grows supports the orphanage, provides an avenue for its children to be sponsored and takes on projects to aid in the orphanage’s future sustainability, like drilling a well, supplying a chicken coop, and building shade houses for gardening. The board and supporters are responding to Psalm 82:3 when it says “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.”
I believe God is calling me to join Him in this work to love the fatherless by serving them financially, physically and spiritually, so I will be going to visit the orphanage from June 10th to June 23rd with Love Grows. During this mission trip, the team will conduct medical clinics for the Royal Orphanage as well as a few other orphanages in the area to provide the children with medical care they may not otherwise receive. The team is comprised of many medical professionals, but also a few eager Christ-followers with no medical training like me. I look forward to serving the children in any and every way that I can and having many conversations about their eternal Savior.
The cost of the trip is $2500. Since God has called me, I know He will provide. I am excited to experience God in a deeper, practical way as I obey Him by going on this trip.
